Commerzbank-Arena

Description

Commerzbank Arena is a famous multifunctional sports arena located in Frankfurt am Main, Germany. It is the home stadium of the local football club Eintracht Frankfurt. The American football team Frankfurt Galaxy also played their matches at this arena.

The stadium was built in 1925 in the middle of the Frankfurt forest. The first large-scale reconstruction was carried out in 1974, especially for the FIFA World Cup. Certain changes were also made for the 1988 European Championship and the 2006 World Cup to be held here. It can be said that the modern Commerzbank Arena is the fourth reconstruction of the same stadium. The latest modernization project was designed by the famous Meinhard von Gerkan architectural firm in 2000. This reconstruction was almost a complete rebuild of the site, with the stadium being built stand by stand. The current capacity of the arena is over 51,000 spectators.

In 2005, the stadium signed a sponsorship contract with Commerzbank for a new name for the arena. The previous name of the site, «Waldstadion», is also popular among German fans. According to UEFA standards, the stadium is called «Frankfurt Arena» during international matches. In 2010, a boxing match was held here between Wladimir Klitschko and former WBC champion Samuel Peter from Nigeria.
