Description

The Millennium Stadium, also known as the Principality Stadium since 2016, is a multi-use arena located in Cardiff, Wales. It is the home stadium of the Wales national rugby union team and the primary venue for official matches of the Wales national football team. With a maximum capacity of 73,931, the Principality Stadium holds the second-largest capacity in the Six Nations Championship after the Stade de France in Paris and Twickenham in London. It is also the second-largest stadium in the world with a fully retractable roof and the second stadium in Europe to have this feature. The stadium has the highest UEFA category four status. It also hosted the 2017 UEFA Champions League Final.

The Principality Stadium was originally built to host the 1999 Rugby World Cup. But over time the arena has become the venue for many other large-scale events, including the Tsunami Relief Cardiff concert, a round of the British Rally Championship, the Speedway British Grand Prix and various concerts. It has also hosted six FA Cup finals and several other high-profile football matches while Wembley Stadium was under renovation.

The Principality Stadium opened in June 1999 and its first major event was a rugby international, when Wales beat South Africa in a test match.
