Volksparkstadion

Description

"Volksparkstadion" is the famous German stadium of the highest fourth category of UEFA. It is located in the Barenfeld district in the west of the city of Hamburg. The home arena for the local football club Hamburg. The maximum capacity of the stadium is 57,000 and 51,500 spectators at local and international matches, respectively.

The Volksparkstadion was built on the site of the former city arena by architect Gustav Elsner. The opening of the new building took place on April 30, 1998. Many football fans still remember this location under its former names - AOL Arena, HSH Nordbank Arena, and Imtech Arena. For all the time of using different names, the arena nevertheless retained the name "Hamburg Arena", which often appeared during European Cup matches.

Even during the old classification of stadiums according to the UEFA version until 2006, the Volksparkstadion was ranked as a special club of five-star stadiums.

In 2010, the first ever Europa League final was held here.

In addition to football competitions, other cultural events of the highest level are held at the arena. So in 2011, a fight for the IBF, WBO and WBA world titles between Ukrainian Wladimir Klitschko and British David Haye took place at the Volksparkstadion.

Celebrities such as Michael Jackson and Depeche Mode also gave concerts at this stadium. Tina Turner and AC/DC.
