Description

Olympiastadion Berlin or the famous German Olympic Stadium in Berlin is a famous multi-purpose football arena. The home stadium of the Hertha Football club and the German national team. UEFA Stadium category 4.

The Olympic Stadium, located in the very center of the Olympic Park sports complex, was built before the First World War. Then its opening was timed to coincide with the 1916 Summer Olympics.

The Olympic Stadium was founded in 1934 and erected in 1936. The development of the architectural project belonged to Werner Markh. It was in the year of the opening that the grand opening ceremony of the Olympic Games took place at the stadium, which was broadcast live on television for the first time. After that, many competitions of the 1936 Summer Olympics were also held here.

The Olympic Stadium was heavily damaged during World War II, but it was rebuilt in the mid-1960s. A large-scale reconstruction took place as part of Germany's preparations for the 1974 World Cup, and three group matches were held here.

The stadium acquired its modern appearance after the 2006 reconstruction before the home World Cup. The total estimated cost was 242 million euros. It was here that the final match of the tournament took place.

In 2011, the Olympic Stadium hosted the opening match of the FIFA World Cup among women's teams.

In 2015, the final match of the UEFA Champions League was played here.
